About Mytrainpal
TrainPal is a UK train ticket booking app and website owned by global travel group Trip.com (Ctrip), launched in 2018. It sells tickets for every UK train operator at the same official National Rail prices as operator websites, with no booking fees. Its signature feature, Split Save (also called SplitSave), automatically splits a single journey into several tickets along the route — entirely legal under UK rail rules — to unlock lower fares that the standard "through" ticket doesn't show. Savings on long-distance trips like London to Manchester, Edinburgh to London or cross-country routes can reach 40-60% versus the simple single. TrainPal also supports Railcards, eTickets delivered instantly to the app, seat reservations, refunds and live journey information. It's regularly compared to Trainline, with the big selling point being no booking or card fees on any transaction.
💡 Money-saving tips for Mytrainpal
- ✓The biggest savings come from turning on Split Save on long-distance journeys (London to Manchester, London to Edinburgh, Birmingham to Leeds) — discounts of 30-60% are common versus a standard single. TrainPal doesn't charge booking or card fees, which alone beats most competitors by £1-£2 per ticket. Always add your Railcard for an extra 1/3 off adult fares. Book Advance tickets around 12 weeks before travel (when fares are first released) for the lowest prices. Combine a TrainPal promo code with Split Save and a Railcard for maximum savings. The app regularly runs referral credits that can be used toward future bookings.
❓ Frequently asked questions about Mytrainpal
How does Split Save work?
Split Save splits one journey into two or more tickets you buy in a single transaction. You stay on the same train, but the ticket combination is cheaper than the single "through" ticket because of quirks in the UK fares system. It's fully legal under National Rail Conditions of Travel, provided the train calls at each split station.
Does TrainPal charge booking fees?
No. TrainPal charges no booking fees and no card fees on any transaction, and fares are identical to the official operator sites. That's one of the main ways it differs from some competitors.
Is TrainPal legitimate?
Yes. TrainPal is operated by Trip.com Group (Ctrip), one of the world's largest online travel companies, and is a licensed Retailer of Third Party Products under National Rail. Tickets are the same as those sold by train operator websites.
Can I add a Railcard?
Yes. You can store up to five Railcards in your TrainPal account and apply them to eligible journeys for the standard 1/3 discount. Just make sure to carry the Railcard (digital or physical) when you travel for inspection.
