M&S traces its origins to 1884, when Michael Marks opened a stall at Leeds Kirkgate Market. The company was incorporated as Marks & Spencer in 1894 with Thomas Spencer joining as partner. Today M&S is a FTSE-listed British multinational retailer with hundreds of stores across the UK and international franchises, covering clothing, home, food and financial services.

Sparks is M&S's free loyalty programme, now fully digital. It offers personalised discounts and 'treats' based on your shopping, Member Prices on selected clothing, home and food lines, a free delivery code or gift on sign-up, a birthday treat and entries into prize draws. Sparks works both in-store (scan your Sparks card or app) and online when signed in — you don't earn points, you unlock offers.

M&S Food orders follow separate delivery and refund terms from clothing/home. Refunds for missing, damaged or quality-issue items are processed through the Help Centre or M&S Food customer care. Fresh and frozen items cannot be returned for change of mind — raise a refund request within the food order itself. Clothing, home and beauty follow the standard 35-day return policy.

Yes. M&S Food is available online via marksandspencer.com (including ready meals, wine, Christmas Food to Order and Dine In deals where in season) and through the Ocado Retail platform (Ocado operates M&S Food groceries delivery). M&S Food Halls in physical stores carry the full fresh range, and some popular M&S branded products (Percy Pig, select ranges) are now available to buy online via the M&S site.
